Designate Hamas a Terrorist Organization

The Flag of the Islamic Resistance Movement, aka Hamas

As many of you know, I’ve been writing for the past week or so about the fact that soon-to-be UN Ambassador Elise Stefanik is gonna have her work cut out for her from her first day in Turtle Bay.

Now, I have a feeling that a lot of you, when you read the subtitle of this piece, thought to yourselves something like, “Wait a minute. I’m sure the UN has already designated the group that has been visiting violence on innocent Israeli civilians for the past 37 years as a terrorist organization. Right?”

Nope.

In fact, believe it or not, the US is only one of eight nations, along with the European Union, that has appropriately labeled the band of butchers responsible for the horrors of Oct 7.

The United Nations —even following that infamous day— has somehow never gotten around to branding the clearly terrorist organization as such.

I’m almost inclined to think that, after all of their hard work, what’s left of Hamas’ leadership might actually feel slighted.

The PLO got the same free pass back in the 70s. In fact, on November 22, 1974, a mere six months after it claimed responsibility for the attack on the Netiv Meir Elementary School that took the lives of 22 schoolchildren and three teachers, the United Nations recognized the Palestine Liberation Organization as the legitimate representative of the Palestinian people and granted the terror organization “observer entity” status.

Yeah, no shit.

And, if actions speak louder than words, it's worth pointing out that Hamas has never so much as appeared on the UN’s Sanctions List or even its Consolidated List, which includes entities subject to sanctions that are not currently in force. The Consolidated List includes groups such as Al-Qaida, ISIS/ISIL, and the Taliban; Boko Haram and Al-Shabaab in Africa; Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed in Pakistan; and the Kurdish Ansar al-Islam in Iraq.

As of yesterday, still no mention of Hamas

Now, don’t take this the wrong way, but I’m willing to bet that a lot —if not most— of you have never heard of many —if not most— of those groups.

However, you’ve sure as shit heard of Hamas, an obviously terrorist group that, it would appear, doesn’t quite measure up to UN sanctions status.
