Seventy-six years ago today, when David Ben-Gurion, the Chairman of the Jewish Agency, proclaimed the establishment of the State of Israel, it took President Harry Truman all of eleven minutes to pick up the phone to call and congratulate the future prime minister, making the US the first nation to recognize the nascent Jewish state.

Truman expressed America's support for the fledgling nation, setting the stage for a friendly and mutually beneficial alliance that has endured for three quarters of a century.

Last week, rather than echo Truman's sentiment, his successor instead blatantly defamed the Jewish state and conveyed his administration's lack of support for Israel's ability to prosecute a war of self defense.

Asked by CNN's Erin Burnett on Wednesday if civilians in Gaza have been killed by the 2,000-lb bombs that he's now choosing to withhold from Israel, President Biden responded, “Civilians have been killed in Gaza as a consequence of those bombs, and other ways in which they go after population centers.”

Presumably, civilians have been killed by bullets, as well. So, are we going to stop sending rifle ammo?
