“No administration has helped Israel more than I have.”

During a surprise (and, evidently, his first) visit to the White House press briefing room on Friday, President Biden was asked if he thought that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu might be delaying a diplomatic solution in Gaza as a means of influencing the results of the upcoming US presidential election.

He never really got around to answering that question but instead responded, “No administration has helped Israel more than I have. None. None. None.”

He uttered the word three times in much the same monotonous manner in which he has admonished our adversaries, “Don’t, don’t, don’t.”

Of course, a more accurate account of his treatment of our greatest Middle East ally during its latest existential crisis would have been, “No administration has yanked Israel’s chain more than I have.”

Remember, last October, Joe assured Israel and the world, “We will not ever fail to have their back. We’ll make sure they have the help their citizens need and they can continue to defend themselves.”

But then, back in May, his political hacks showed him some polling data from Michigan and Wisconsin, and the definition of "ever" suddenly became a little malleable.

And so, just seven months after the October 7 atrocities that precipitated the current conflict, Biden warned, "If they go into Rafah, I'm not supplying the weapons that have been used historically to deal with Rafah."

He also clarified that, in addition to the 500 and 2,000-lb bombs to which he was referring, the US would also hold back on providing artillery shells.

"I've made it clear to Bibi and the war cabinet," he said. "You're not gonna get our support if, in fact, they go in these population centers."

"We will not ever fail to have their back."

That same week, the Washington Post reported that the administration had offered the IDF “sensitive intelligence to help the Israeli military pinpoint the location of Hamas leaders and find the group’s hidden tunnels.”

Wait a minute. Do you mean to tell me that the US was withholding intel about the whereabouts of terrorists who continue to attack our ally and hold American hostages?

Is it just me, or is that completely twisted?

Anyway, as far as the “No administration has done more for Israel” claim, there are many who would beg to differ. At the top of the list would be Israel’s fourth prime minister, the late Golda Meir, who led her nation through the fiercest conflict in its history, a war the Jewish state likely wouldn’t have survived without the unconditional support of President Richard Nixon.

51 years ago today, on October 6, 1973, Egypt, and Syria, supported by nine Islamic states and a contingent of troops from Cuba, launched a surprise, coordinated, two-pronged attack on Israeli positions along the Suez Canal and in the Golan Heights.
