Not Ready for Primetime

Let's be honest.

I was driving last Saturday, listening to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis give an update on the disaster relief efforts in the wake of the back-to-back hurricanes that devastated portions of the Sunshine State.

Holy cow! It was as if he knew everything last thing that was going on from Miami to Pensacola. It really was an incredibly impressive performance. Hearing him demonstrate his organizational and executive acumen, I couldn’t help but reflect on Kamala Harris’ inability to answer a simple question with a response other than, “I grew up a middle-class kid.”

On Tuesday, Donald Trump sat down for an hour-long interview with Bloomberg Editor-in-Chief John Micklethwait at the Economic Club of Chicago.

The former president authoritatively discussed a wide variety of issues including economic policy, debt and inflation concerns, trade policies, immigration, and foreign relations, particularly concerning China. He also skillfully defended his plan for tariffs against the arguments of his host, who has a history of being opposed to such measures.

Again, I had a hard time not being reminded of Kamala’s empty mantra about her “opportunity economy.”

On Wednesday, Trump subjected himself to an hour-long town hall on Fox News’ The Faulkner Focus, fielding questions from a 100% female audience.

He again demonstrated his grasp of issues, facts, and figures. He was humorous, spontaneous, and engaging.

Yeah, it was a friendly crowd on a friendly network. But remember the ABC debate ambush and the opening question cheap shot from that same network's Rachel Scott at the National Association of Black Journalists conference in Chicago in July.

So, it’s not as if he’s been hiding out in the haven of conservative media outlets.

Kamala, on the other hand, has continued to repeat canned, focus-grouped responses written by somebody else.

Yesterday, however, she took the remarkable step of sitting down for an interview on —of all networks— Fox News, hoping to win over undecided, mostly male viewers.

When I first heard of the arrangement, I must admit that I felt compelled to give her a modicum of credit for finally stepping out of the shadows for a real interview.

Well, she flopped and she and her people have no one to blame but themselves, and an all too accommodative media.
