Sometime around 2,000 BC, God promised the land of Canaan to a fella by the name of Abraham. A few years later, just to show that he wasn’t messing around, He reiterated the deal, making it more formal and specific.

He went on to renew His covenant with Abraham’s first legitimate son, Isaac, expressly instructing (you might say, “commanding”) him not to go to Egypt but to remain in Canaan.

Isaac’s son, Jacob, inherited the blessing, with God saying of Canaan, “The land on which you lie I will give to you and to your descendants; and your descendants shall be like the dust of the earth, and you shall spread abroad to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south; and by you and your descendants shall all the families of the earth bless themselves.”

Then, as He had done with Abraham, He later restated the pledge, and with a bonus.

“No longer shall your name be called Jacob, but Israel shall be your name.”

So his name was called Israel. And God said to him, “I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall come from you, and kings shall spring from you. The land which I gave to Abraham and Isaac I will give to you, and I will give the land to your descendants after you.”

(Genesis 35: 10-12)

Five generations later, the promise was renewed to Moses and, after his death, his right-hand man, Joshua, led the Israelites back into Canaan, the Land of Milk and Honey.

The Biblical land of Canaan, aka the Land of Milk and Honey. Look familiar?

Last Wednesday, September 18th, in the Year of Our Lord 2024, nearly 4,000 years after God’s promise to Israel, the United Nations told his descendants —the people that bear his name— to beat it.

By a vote of 143 to 14 the General Assembly blessed a grotesque resolution referred to only as document A/ES-10/L.31/Rev.1.

The preposterous dictate calls on Israel to end its “occupation” of Palestinian territories within 12 months. That means that a year from now, Judea, Samaria, Gaza, and East Jerusalem must be Jew-free or, as the Nazis would say, Judenrein.

Not for nothin’, but East Jerusalem, for instance, happens to include the Old City. You know, the City of David, the Holy City, the city once known as Zion.
